Exclamation Please help noob connect a device to BES Express

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone.

We just migrated a client to new servers, and to an in-house exchange from a hosted exchange solution. They had BES functionality for ONE user, and we had to setup BES Express for that one user on the new servers....

How do I connect his device, that was connected to a different BES, to our new one?

Do I have to wipe the device?

Someone else suggested that I could try simply deleting the service books from the old BES and then connecting the device to the new BES - would that work?

If I do have to wipe the device, if I do a full backup using Desktop Manager, will we be able to restore his apps, texts, etc. to the device after connecting it to the new BES?

Any guides and info you can provide would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

best to use transporter, but for one person is it worth it? maybe

you can do a selective restore after you wipe the device (have to to remove the encryption keys) then activate it on new server.

So then I DO have to wipe the device to connect it to the new BES?

Desktop Manager does not back up apps. You will need to reinstall those after the device is wiped.
Settings and data should restore just fine. Just make sure you do the restore BEFORE activating on the new BES.

with transporter the device is just moved to the new BES.

Wiping will require you to setup your apps again, you dont have to remove the apps during the wipe. most settings will be restored from your selective backup.

Ok, dumb question; how do I "wipe" the device? I can't remember - does it prompt me to do so when I try to connect it to the BES?

Or is it something I manually have to do through DM or the device settings somewhere?

Thanks

Well, that was surprisingly easy....I was playing around with it, discovered the "Enterprise Activation" tab in DM software, ended up doing it that way, didn't even have to wipe the device.

Only issue I had was that contacts were duplicated, fixed that by going into contact options on the device & typing "rset" then letting it re-sync from the server.....easy!!!!
