Default Help/guide needed for new install of BES Express 5.0.3.41 / Exchange 2010

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I will start off by saying I'm completely new to Blackberry devices, as well as Blackberry Enterprise Server.

I have been tasked with getting a new BES Express server set up and working so that we can begin to test whether we want our users to use Blackberry devices to receive email. This will be installed on a stand alone Windows 2008 server and we are using Exchange 2010. At the moment, our users are all using devices that download Microsoft Exchange email directly.

I have made an attempt to get BES working using RIMs documentation and have come to a point where I am trying to enter Enterprise Activation on my Blackberry device but it just sits at 'Contacting server...'. I do receive the ETP.DAT email in my mailbox but it gets no further than this. As I've sort of fumbled my way through this, I guess I've done something wrong in the set up.

What I was wondering was if there was an easy (as possible) to follow guide to get what I need (A stand alone BES server working with a seperate server running Exchange 2010) set up from scratch, including how to use the Administration Service to set up a user and get it activated and working on the Blackberry.

Any help/advice would be brilliant, as I'm really struggling at the moment.

Thanks in advance,

Lee

If the ETP.DAT stays in the Inbox, it might be that the BESAdmin service account doesn't have enough rights. For Enterprise Activation troubleshooting, see:

Installation step-by-step guide, just scroll down:

I did follow the prerequisites from the Blackberry site, one problem I'm having is that I cannot logon the Blackberry Admin Service with the BESAdmin account that I've created, so have been logging in to create a user etc as our Domain Admin.

Would this be a likely cause of the problem?

Domain admins should not be used on BES.

Do you have any idea what would be stopping my BESAdmin user from logging into the Blackberry Admin Service?

The user is set up and working in AD and can login by Windows to the server but when I put the username/password/domain in and select to login using Active Directory it says it is not correct.

Can be several reasons, you would need to post some log snippets here. Please also read this for troubleshooting:

KB17894-"The username, password, or domain is not correct. Please correct the entry" appears at BlackBerry Administration Service login

To everyone that was replied, thanks for all of your help on this thread!

I decided to completely flatten the Win 2008 server and the BESAdmin account I created today, and start from scratch using all of the documentation you've all linked to and got it working first time around without errors
