Default contact sync issues

Please Login to Remove!

So here's a good one. Have a user who is having contact sync issues, where contacts are missing. I've done all of the usual, including

-resent service books
-deleted service books and then resent
-wiped device, did a new activation
-wiped device, removed user from BES, re-added and activated.

The really strange thing is that after I wiped/removed user from BES and re-added him, it is an entirely different set of contacts that is missing. i.e. contacts that were missing before are now on the device, while some contacts that were there before are now gone.

The user has about 3300 contacts which is making this even more difficult since it is hard to track. And yes, the user only has one contact list in outlook, not multiple lists that do not sync.

the device is a bold 9900 running 7.1 (though he was having a similar issue on a 9780 that was recently replaced due to hardware).

We are running BES 5.0.3 with the latest MR and Exchange 2010 patched to current levels.

Any ideas/thoughts? I'm near my wits end.

In outlook Make a new folder for contacts called backup

move all contacts to the folder and wait for all to be removed from device

then pull battery on device and put back in

After device boots move contacts from backup to the contacts folder and wait for them all to appear

Make a new contact in outlook and see if it gets to the device.

Make sure that the user has no blank contacts. I think there needs to be something in one of the name fields or the company field otherwise the contact won't sync.
