trying to decide if the blackberry desktop manager should be left on the users workstation once they have been upgrade to 4.0

If you decide to keep Desktop Manager, upgrade Destkop Manager to 4.0 for all users before you update the BES. We upgraded our BES from 3.8 to 4.0 and when our users plugged their BlackBerries into the old Desktop Manager 3.6, it disabled some of the wireless services that should have been enabled (like wireless PIM sync and stuff).

It's been a month now and we are still dealing with issues, and we haven't even had a chance to upgrade to Desktop Manager 4.0 for our users because of other problems.

We are going to keep DM for now.

One of the main issues with the pre-4.0 desktop software on a 4.0 BES system is that most people when they upgrade to BES 4.0 enable 256 AES only for transport encryption. Therefore when the users devices are connected to the 3.6 desktop manager, the only encryption is 3DES and the device is no longer able to communicate with the server. Sometimes you can get around reprovisioning a device with this problem by doing a wireless encryption key re-gen, however it doesn't always work. If you plan on utilizing the desktop manager for the users, make sure you upgrade it along with the handheld.

We continue to use the software, but only for the sys admins and really advanced users...most people just don't need it.
