Default Secondary BES Express Server

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Guys,

We've currently got a BES Express server configured and working well, but I'm looking into having an BES Express server which would be used to link into our second Exchange server.

So, a couple of questions.

Is is possible to have a second BES server linked into a backup Exchange server, and could it also be linked to the primary BES server so it already knows about all the devices registered etc.

Thanks.

you dont link BES, it uses AD for where a mailbox is

Install second BES using same database and you can move users around.
if less than 1500 users, just stick with one BES as it can handle 2000 users when installed on a dedicated server.

Thanks.

I probably didn't explain it very well in the first post so bear with me.

We currently have 2 Exchange servers. One is the main Exchange server and one is a backup one. They are both in different locations on different subnets. The live one replicates data automatically to the backup one over the network, and the backup Exchange server can take over where the live Exchange server left off if there was ever a problem with the live server.

So... I currently have a BES server which is attached to the live Exchange server, but also would like a backup BES server which will attach to the backup Exchange server.

Is it possible for this to happen with BES Express or does it need the full blown version of BES?

Also, as the BES Express takes all the mailbox settings from AD, will it automatically redirect the mailboxes once the backup Exchange server takes over and handles the mailboxes?

Express does not support HA, only the full version does.

You can however move users over to a second instance in minutes if they both use the same database. its a manual move only.
