I have a problem with all of my BES for GroupWise servers, regardless of version.

If you use Word 2007 or Word 2010 and create a .doc file, then email it to yourself as an attachment, you will not be able to open it on your Blackberry.

I'd like to report this as a flaw in the BB Attachment service, but I don't currently have support on any server.

Are there any other BESG admins out there that can confirm this flaw for me? Maybe we can get someone's attention.

(Note: there is no problem with .docx files, or using "Documents to Go"

What version of BES?

Have you restarted the attachment service?

I have seen it get hung up before on certain attachments

This is happening on all versions of BES, on a variety of different physical servers. However, most of my servers are either 5.1.3 or 4.1.7.

I can guarantee this flaw affects all BES for GroupWise servers; hopefully an admin with 2 spare minutes can assist me with a test.

I am running BES 5.0.1 MR 6 for GroupWise and I am able to open both .doc and .docx attachments on my 9330 running OS6. These documents were created in Word 2007.

Could you post the information in this thread? There could be other users that are having this issue and could benefit greatly from it.

I'd be happy to post any additional information that may be relevant. I was a little shocked to hear that this is NOT affecting you, as it absolutely presents as a global issue. I wonder what makes your installation different.

Affected builds so far:

GW 8.0.2 HP1 / BES 5.0.1 MR6
GW 8.0.2 HP3 / BES 5.0.1 MR6
GW 8.0.2 / BES 4.1.6.23 (this was reported by an end-user)

I do notice for the first two entries, an Windows Event Log is recorded that may be relevant:
Event ID: 26 - Application Popup
Application popup: BBConvert.exe - System Error : The program can't start because WMVCore.DLL is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem

These two BES Servers are running on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. The 4.1.6 BES is running on Windows Server 2000 SP4.

Groupwise is running on Netware 6.5 in all cases.

Steps to reproduce:

Open Word 2007/2010.
Create a document with any text.
Save document as .doc
Open GroupWise
Email document to BES-enabled recipient
Open attachment on Blackberry
Select "View" (do not open with Documents to Go)

Resulting Error: Unrecognized document format

I have emailed you KB19555 resolved the issue in this Windows Event Viewer log entry.

Thank you. KB19555 took care of the BBConvert.exe error on the Server 2008 R2 machines but does not change the .doc attachment issue.

Looks like this is a known issue (KB23912) that has been resolved for every platform except GroupWise.

Jsconyers, Office 2007 is not affected (my mistake)... just Office 2010. If you have a copy of that, give it another try.
