BES Initialization hanging at 52% My colleague upgraded the OS on his 9900 from 7.1.0.267 to 7.1.0.714. The OS upgrade appeared worked fine with no apparent problems, except that the BES initialization will not complete. It hangs at 52% every time. What's strange is that when he upgraded to 7.1.0.267, he had similar problems. He contacted the BES admin and was given a new activation code, but that made no difference. I suppose we could wipe the phone and reinstall the OS, but it seems like something else might be going on. Anyone BES admins out there with a suggestion of what to try? |
Re: BES Initialization hanging at 52% what items are not being synced up? I have seen contacts and calendar entries hang it before. this is how i have fixed many in the past Start with this. KB10953 - Contacts do not synchronize between BlackBerry smartphones and Microsoft Outlook Also this works well too In outlook Make a new folder for contacts called backup move all contacts to the folder and wait for all to be removed from device then pull battery on device and put back in After device boots move contacts from backup to the contacts folder and wait for them all to appear Make a new contact in outlook and see if it gets to the device. Backup device then in Outlook highlight calendar goto file import/export choose export to file choose Persoanl folder pst, next make sure calendar is highlighted and choose subfolders if you have them, next save to desktop with a name you can remember, Finish Click ok on screen popup Go to view, arange by events delete all entries. KB04950 - How to reset the BlackBerry smartphone calendar application close outlook and any word files, open outlook back up after 15 seconds. Then goto file import/export import from another program or file, next choose Persoanl folder pst, next find the file and import Choose highlight calendar and Finish Change view back to what you want and try again. |

There are a lot of items in the activation process and they are initializing in no particular order. Around half of the items are complete, the others say "initializing". I don't see any indication which step it's trying to complete. Update: The BES admin suggested to use ALT CNFG to go into the Enterprise Activation settings, disable and reenable wireless sync. That cancelled and restarted the process and it hung at the same place. Entering the activation code at the initial account activation resulted in the message, 'The BES has not responded to your activation request. An error may have occurred'. |
Re: BES Initialization hanging at 52% Talked to the service provider. They think things are working from their end and from what I can see, they seem to be right. The IT department deleted and re-added the phone from the BES. Tried to activate again, no difference. Wiped the phone and reinstalled OS. Now the activation is failing at the beginning, with a message that it's not getting a response from the server. The activation email is being received into the user's inbox, but not being read and deleted by the BES. So this seems to be a BES problem, but the BES is working fine for other users. It's only this phone that's having the problem. |
Re: BES Initialization hanging at 52% can you activate a diff account with the phone? If yes and it works then there is a mailbox issue |
