Default BESX 5.0.1 to 5.0.2 - straightforward?

Please Login to Remove!

Following some long-overdue updates on our BESX server - including Java - I can no longer get to the console login page or start either of the BAS services. I've tried various 'fixes' that appear here and elsewhere but nothing's worked so far and it looks like I'll have to upgrade to 5.0.2 (from 5.0.1).

Is it possible to know in advance if upgrading over the top will basically keep everything as is? I'm asking as I don't have any documentation for the original installation should I need that for the upgrade so I'm hoping it's just next, next and next.

Existing handsets are working ok bar one which needs to be attached to the server for activation.

BESX is installed on our DC (Windows Server 2003) connecting to Exchange 2010. We have 17 handsets.
If there's any more information I can provide please let me know.

You really need to install BESX on a separate server.

Thanks for the quick reply. Is this likely to be straightforward for someone who's not done it before and is it possible to do so without having to re-activate existing handsets?

You most likely have BES Express installed and since it is on the DC timing in bootup can make BAS a pain.

boot sequence
DC, SQL + Exchange, BES

Apply Sp2 should be fairly easy but why not goto SP3?

BESX is currently using SQL 2000 and I'm trying to go the simplest route to avoid breaking it completely so I don't want to have to change SQL as well.
