Hi Guys,

Carrying on from my other thread which has changed a bit now.

I have set the home page address and resent the IT Policy to my handheld But i am seeing no change in the browser configuration.

I had alook through the Admin Guide under IT Policy and the Appendix: IT Policy also and didn't see what i was looking for.

some of the other things i set on every handheld is to Show Images to No in the browser config and Delete set to Prompt in the Mailbox options etc.

there is no IT Policy for these is there?

and if not.. can i create my own under User Defined Items?

You are checking the WAP browser, correct? The home page setting only affects it - not the MDS or carrier browsers.

Using the default browser that comes with v4 for the Handhelds. No 3rd party browser or anything.

Anything else i can check to get to the bottom of my problem?

There should be two browsers that come with the handheld by default - the WAP/WML browser and the carrier browse; once added to the BES, there will be 3, in most cases. Look for the one that has a wire-frame globe (assuming 4.1) for the icon. Mine is listed as 'Download Fun' (TMO). I believe others include mMode (ATTWS), etc.

ok, if i go "Show All" for the icons i have two browser i cons as you said.

One has a small world on it with a arrow going around and across it and a building in the background.

The other browser which looks like the carrier browser is a big world with a arrow across is.

at our company we use the first one i mentioned. and as far as i was aware the WAP/WML browser.

So i am using the right browser jibi?

anything else you want me to check to be sure?

Do you have received the IT Policy on the BlackBerry device? Go to Options/Security and check if you have the right IT Policy and/or check this on the BES.

Policy on my Blackberry is correct

and on the BES it is the same one and says applied.


i just rerembered this as i was looking in there before..

in the IT Policy - if into the Broswer Policy Group and change the MDS Browser Title it will change on my BlackBerry - and this is the Browser we on our BB's in the company.

The MDS Browser = BlackBerry browser = browsing your infrastucture (proxy server)
WAP Browser = Services = Browsing with carrier.
And you can only set home page on the BlackBerry browser with IT Policy not on Services.

what does "on services" mean? is this why its not working for me?

we have the it policy set and we have and use the blackberry browser.

On "Services" (Services = WAP = carrier browsing). So there is another reason why you cann't. You can browse with the BlackBerry browser?

umm, so the WML browser mentioned in the IT Policy settings is, in fact, the MDS browser, eh? That makes a whole hill of beans worth of sense. Not to mention that its NOT listed with the MDS Policies but rather the Non-Grouped Device Only policies. It might mean the MDS browser, but that just seems like bad/misleading wording and placement for the policy.

yip can browse fine with the BlackBerry browser. Been setting the Home Page Address Manualy everytime for users in The Browser Configuartion menu each time i set up a user.

I agree it is misleading, but the comment by the Policy is clear:

Only a MDS browser can set a Intranet address.

going back to what i said before

do you know if i can i set the Home Address for this browser??

i think this thread is going round in circles.

is there a way to check if the browser you use is WAP or MDS?

The one with the building, in your case, is the MDS browser.
