Default Emails in BB not the same as emails in Outlook Inbox

Please Login to Remove!

I've been using the BES trial version for about 2 weeks now. I'm happy with it but confused about how my Outlook Inbox Syncs with the Blackberry. Once processed, I usually move emails out of my default Inbox (in MS Oulook) to another folder I've created and named "Inbox Processed". This is so that I focus on email I still need to address. I expected that I would see the same emails in my BB as I see in my MS Outlook inbox but that is not the case. I've configured the BES to only sync up my Inbox and Sent items folder but that does not resolve the problem either. Does anyone have any input on this?

Thanks

What exactly is the problem? Are you missing emails or are you still seeing all emails?
If you've moved some of your Inbox emails into a folder created in Outlook, then those emails will still appear in the main Messages view on the device....this is by design. Unless you choose to use the "Hide Filed Messages" feature on the device. This will "remove" those filed messages from the default main view and place them in the folder.

If you are moving these messages into a PST, remember that BlackBerry is not designed for this. It is meant to mirror your Exchange profile while a PST is an offline or archived mailbox.

If you move messages out of your Outlook inbox to another folder or subfolder and expect them to dissapear off of your blackberry; this will not happen by default. You need to configure the option to "Hide Filed Messages."

Make sure Reconcile is enabled under message options.

Make sure you have your device options set for "delete On: Handheld & Mailbox"

All messages from all of the folders you have set to synchronize show up in one large display list on your blackberry. The messages will not be broken out into subfolders like in outlook or on a Treo.

I think this answers your question. If not, please be more specific and we would be happy to offer assistance.

If I file emails on the BB to a folder that is a PST on my desktop, will the emails get filed that way on the desktop when I synchronize?

I do not know for sure, but my assumption would be NO. The Bes wouldn't know where the message went.

The best example to use is the deleted itmes foler. When you delete an item from your Outlook client, it goes to the deleted items folder. The BES server notices that the mesage is in deleted items and then removes the item from your blackberry.

BUT if you delete an item and then immediiatey empty your deleted items folder, the BES has absolutely no idea where the message went and therefore will never remove it from your handheld.

I hope this makes sense.

Good luck.

It makes sense. I was hoping I was missing something and it could be done.

Just an FYI, with BES 4.1, it will support 'hard deletes' which I will assume to cover the filing of messages to a PST/Archive, in addition to the plain old SHFT+DEL. Where the BES now simply leaves the message alone if it has no source to compare status against, with next week's 4.1 release, it will allow you to configure the BES to remove the item from the handheld if the source cannot be found.

That can be good and that can be bad. I'm not sure which it's more likely to be before trying that new feature. Only time will tell, but I can imagine something going very very wrong in that scenerio.

..but YAYYY that 4.1 will be out next week, thanks Jibi.

Just to add on, it does support SHFT+DEL, as well as moving it to a PST. This is a really nice feature for a LOT of our users, depending on the environment (in one, our users use PST files unless they're on the BES; in the other, they've always used Exchange mailbox w/ an Archive PST configured).

Sorry to pile on here but when I file messages to a subfolder on my BB they don't show up on the subfolder on the desktop. It isn't a pst folder but a subfolder.

I added the subfolder to the reconcile list but it still has tons of messages not in the desktop folder?
