Looks like another application/service (other than BES) is currently using port 3101. The firewall configuration (ask the Firewall guy) should indicate what services/ server is bound to port 3101.

The firewall should have something call traffic viewer or logs report. You may ask the firewall guy to indicate which application is using the port 3101 by using that traffic viewer / logs report? as long as i know, port 3101 is a fixed requirement, we can't negotiate it... from another server in your network, you may type netstat in command prompt, and then you can see which port is under use, check whether port 3101 is under use or not.

If you run the BES Router on the same box as the rest of the BES, this issue can be fixed in windows registry. The issue is with the BES Manager listening on the port that is used when you plug a handheld onto the server to activate it.

navigate to the following reg key on the BES server

HKEY_Local_Machine\software\research in motion\blackberryrouter

add the following DWORD Key entry

DevicePort (set decimal value and enter 4101)

restart the server, this will force the BES server to use port 4101 for devices and all should be good.

Everybody who is using watchguard firewall! The firewall manager software is using port 4101! Uninstall the Firebox system manager, reboot the server, or in the task manager end the CONTROLD.EXE process.
If you don't use the Watchguard system manager and the 4101 port is used by a process, see it with "Active Ports", and this is show you witch program use the port.

Default Fixed it !! for Vista

Ok, heres what all of u vista users have to do.

1) Click Start, then in search type; "msconfig" without the two ""

2) Click the tools tab, and scroll down to; "Disable UAC"

3) Highlight the "Disable UAC" and then click the "Launch" tab.

4) A command prompt will open up. if it says finished, simply close the Command prompt, and Re-start your computer, and Re-run the application.

Thats It ! its fixed !

**** Note***** to continue to use blackberry desktop software you will need to keep the UAC disabled. I tried to start it up again after i installed deskyop software, and it prohibitd blackberry desktop software from sinking up with your handheld. Have fun all.
