Default BES Service pack upgrades?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

We are currently running BES 4 SP 2 for Domino and I want to upgrade. Is it OK to go straight to SP4 with hot fixes and skip out SP3?

Many Thanks

Just spoken to a trusted Blackberry engineer (not a helpdesk person) and he has told me jumping to SP4 from SP2 is fine but for Hotfixes its better to load them all in order

I was under the impression that even hotfixes were cumulative. Regardless, hotfixes only take a couple of minutes, so just do them in order to be safe. I am doing our 4.0.3 upgrade to SP4 + HF1 +HF2 tomorrow.

I installed sp4 hf2 today for Domino. I was running just sp4. I skipped over hf1, no issues so far.

hotfixes are cumulative from the last service pack (HF2 includes HF1 for 4.0 SP4). service packs are cumulative from the base version release (SP4 will update 4.0.0). there was a KB article concerning this a few weeks ago when the misconception that hotfixes were not cumulative.

I went from BES 4.0 right up to SP4 = no issues

I then went from BES 4.0 SP4 right to HotFix #2 = no issues

Thanks,

Do you happen to have that KB number to hand jibi? I did a search of the blackberry support site but couldnt find it.
Im wondering what version i should be seeing for my current version is the reason i'm asking. If i go to help -> about in blackberry manager it is 4.0.4.8 where as if i look in event viewer i get this for the policy service:

SCS::InitializeSystem - Starting BlackBerry IT Admin Server - Version 4.0.4.4

4.0.4.8 for the controller and this for the dispatcher

Starting BlackBerry Dispatcher LONSV03208 - Version 4.0.4.5

I went to service pack 4 and then jumped to hotfix 2. I would have imagined that RIM would have put everything at the same level to afford such confusion. Im having some weird things occur with read and unread mails on devices, disapperaing and then reappearing, and being read in outlook but remaining unread on the device.

anyone have an official word from RIM???

How To - Install a BlackBerry Enterprise Server hotfix

Last Updated: 02 March 2006
Article Number: KB-04907

Procedure
This is a general guide for installing BlackBerry Enterprise Server hotfixes. Each hotfix includes all cumulative changes released in previous hotfixes for the service pack. Thus, a single upgrade can keep the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software current.

Is there a proceedure to backout of a failed service pack update? Or if a service pack causes "problems"?

I have to do an upgrade (my first one), I am a little nervous, and My boss is asking... what if it doesn't work?

Right now, all I can says is I have to un-install BES and re-install from scratch.. but that is not going to sit well...

I believe the installer will rollback (can someone confirm this?) In any cases, ALWAYS backup your "BES" folder, Notes.INI and BESMgmt.mdf + ldf (local MSDE).

I am sorry for my question ;)...does the same apply to SP's for BES for Exchange? Does it mean that if I'm running 3.6.3 I can go directly to 3.6.7?

Really sorry, been a newbee

Question

I too am running exchange and BES 3.6.2. I have just been asked to take over adminstration of the server as the previous admin has left our organisation. I have been asked to upgrade the server to 3.6.7 and from these posts it appears that that will be no problem, but I have another question about the client devices.

Our dodgy documentation here suggests that, after aplying BES service packs, the client devices stop working until they are recradled (or removed and then reconnected) with their desktop machines.

Is this right?

Is this the only change that needs to be done to the client devices to get them working again after a server service pack?

thanks,
Paul
