Default BES 4.0 Restore Question - 04-06-2006, 01:28 PM

A quick(ish) question.

We back up our BES nightly. Before the backup runs, an SQL maintenance process kicks that stops the SQL database, makes a .BAK backup of it, and dumps it on to an area of the servers disk, and restarts the SQL database

Half hour later, a backup job starts, and backs the entire disk to tape. The only open files are the SQL database, but it dont matter, because the SQL backup files are backed up.

Question then is, if we were to completly lose that server, provided the replacement server was identical, is it a case of installing vanilla Win2k, installing the Backup Agent, doing a full restore, and restarting the box?

Is this the done thing? or have I missed something?

Thanks in anticipation

Assuming you have a critical failure that results in a full restore thats how it's done. But if you have a database corruption or a loss of the data base itself you can restore the .BAK and then use the SQL Enterprise Manager to restore the database back into SQL.
