Default Wireless Email Reconciliation overwrites messages - 04-06-2006, 07:19 PM

Hello.

I own a 7290. I wont to switch to a new 8700.
I restored a mail backup to the 8700.
I did enterprise activation.

All right, but the first Wireless Email Reconciliation makes my old email to be erased from the BlackBerry. When the reconciliation finishes I only have the messages prepopulated during the activation.

I have a huge mailbox and I dont know the effect of changing the device settings to "device wins".

How can I mantain all the old restored messages at the device, and at the same time, keep the Wireless Reconciliation On ?

Thank You in Advance
Best Regards.

For BES users, the on conflict setting rarely comes into play. What it is used for is determining which device wins when there are two different actions taken on a particular message. For example, say you move a new message into a folder on your BlackBerry. Before the change has synced back to your server you delete the message from your mail client. During the reconcile the message is seen as moved and deleted. Your On Conflicts setting determines which action to perform. If you had it set to mailbox, then the message is deleted. If set to handheld the message would not be deleted, but instead moved into the folder. Because the sync between the BlackBerry and your mail server is fairly fast the setting doesnt come into play much.

In short, you dont. What I tell people to do is move any email you want into a new tempory folder in your mail client. Wait a bit for the mail server to finish moving and replicating the changes. Then move the messages back into your inbox on your mail client. All the messages should then be sent to your BlackBerry as if they were new mail. At least that is the way it works for me.

Hello.

I have "cuted" and "pasted" the messages, but the BES does not send it to the device. At the logs I can see how the BES ignores it:

"Message for user is prior to activation" (KB-01852)

I have done the Registry tweak to increase the Prepopulation Limits to 14 days or 750 Msgs.

I will test if restoring the mail backup before Enterprise activation works fine.

Thank You in advance.
Best Regards.
