Question Newbie BES Install Questions... - 04-10-2006, 07:07 PM

Dear all,

Just installed BES 4.0 on Exchange 2003 SP1 / Win 2003 SP2.
A couple windows hotfixes and head scratching re: CDO.DLL.

The documentation is a little spotty. And I am having some trouble
getting my handheld to activate.

First of all, is running BES on the Exchange server workable?

It sez it wants an outgoing connection for the service on port
3101 (is TCP sufficient?).

When folks in these here forums refer to hotfixes - are they BES
hotfixes or the mentioned Windows 2003 hotfixes?

Should I be looking for a newer version of BES before I continue?

Any suggestions welcome.

Rich

Well considering you installed BES on Exchange you should be fine with the version of cdo.dll, mapi32.dll.
Because you have SP1 I would advise to update emsmdb32.dll from 6.5.7226.0 to 6.5.7233.63

I would suggest upgrading to 4.0 SP4 HF2

Default BES Install - 04-11-2006, 10:52 PM

I installed the SP4 update, but the hotfixes stump me.
They require installation media. When I point them to the
CD I get an error message from the installation script.

I have tried copying the cd to a local location. It looks as though
it wants a 4.04 version of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.msi
which I don't have as I have upgraded my installation using the
downloaded EXE.

Other question is: If I want to be at SP4 HF2, do I first need to
install HF1?

Thanks!

Answering my own question here...
I was able to extract the .msi file from the zipped EXE for SP4.
