Default 2 BlackBerrys, 2 BESs, 2 email accounts, 1 SIM - 04-28-2006, 02:42 AM

Company A has an Exchange with BES. Company B has an Exchange with BES. I have 2 different BlackBerry units but only ONE SIM card.

Can I use the same SIM card on 2 different BlackBerry units for 2 different email accounts on 2 BESs?

I know I have to keep swapping the SIM card but does the BES only care about the PIN code, which is unique to the BB, or does BES also tie it to the SIM card too?

How about if I have 2 SIMs and 2 BBs? Can I swap SIMs between the 2 BBs without affecting the email? Bottom line is, does the BES email follow the unit, or the SIM card or both?

In my experience (which has been mostly reading, not practical) I think BES cares about the unit. Looking at the administration for BES servers (woo! 90 day trial mode) it looks like it just cares about the unit.

You could try I guess..

Cheers,

Switching the SIM cards between devices will not be a problem and BB Service will work for both.

Does that mean swapping SIM card between 2 devices will only result in phone number changes but the BES associated email account stays with each device?

In short, the PIN identifies the device with the BES, the SIM identifies the device with the GSM carrier. Its (kinda, sorta) like if you had 2 PCs but only one patch cable.

To avoid swapping sim cards setup one of the email accounts with your BIS acct. the bis acct is your acct with the service provided that allows you to receive your corporate email via the carriers server.
write back if you're not sure how to set it up

I have one email account going thru BIS, one email account on the same BB with BES and policy. I now have another email account with another BES and blank policy. I don't want this third BES email account to affect the setup on my 1st BB, thus this question.

BTW, I did the SIM swap way and now the same SIM works on 2 different BB with email accounts associated with 2 different BES. However, BIS mail will only go to the one I designate on the TMO web account, does not follow the SIM card. I can switch the BIS between the 2 BBs but have to do it at the TMO web site on top of swapping the SIM. Therefore, I leave the SIM in the 1st BB with BIS and heavy usage/important BES email account and occassionally put the SIM in the 2nd BB to update email on the low usage/less important BES email account.
