Default How do I install BES Manager 4.1 on Workstation - 05-01-2006, 10:06 AM

just finished upgrading from 4.0 sp2 to 4.1 hf1 (For Exchange using MSDE) and seems fine so far. Now i'm trying to install just the manager portion on my workstation so i don't have to log into the console of the server to add/modify users. I ran the setup, selected only the Manager portion, now it seems to be installed but cannot connect to the server. If i check the logs it's trying to connect to the BESMgmt database on the local PC, not the server. Do i need to setup an ODBC connection, if so, what do i give it for a name and how will the manager software know to use it?
Thanks. -Brian.

Thanks for the reply, but It won't let me open the manager at all. I think I have resolved my own issue though. I changed HKLM\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server\Database
"DatabaseServerMachineName"="Actual Server name"

I still can't connect, but I think that's only because BES's default install of MSDE has the DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS option specified. I will have to run SVRNETCN.exe from the server and allow TCP/IP connections, but won't be able to do it until later when I can restart the server (the change doesn't take affect until SQL is restarted).

Just in case someone has or will have the same issue, I did resolve it by allowing TCP/IP connections to the database, then rebooting the BES server. Now, by changing the Reg key in the last post, I am able to open the Manager from my PC.

Does it actually work? I can connect to my server but when I click on many of the links in the Manager I get a page not found error.

everything seems to be ok, i haven't actually gone through and added a new user (when clicking on the Add User link it does bring up my Exchange Address book), but when i click on any tabs or links they do appear fine. Is it possibly a permissions issue? I log into my PC as a domain admin, therefore local admin on BES server as well, plus my MSDE is setup for mixed authentication... Also, editing IT Policies (which was one of my main reasons for having the mgr on my PC) is OK too.
