Question Installing BES Lotus Domino - 05-01-2006, 05:04 PM

My problem is that in the requirements checklist it says the following:

Install one of the following messaging and collaboration servers on the computer where you plan to install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server:

•IBM Lotus Domino server version 5.0.3 or later (version 5.0.12 recommended)

•IBM Lotus Domino server version 6.0.1 Critical Fixpack 2 or later (Primary Domino Directory required)

•IBM Lotus Domino server version 6.5 or later (Primary Domino Directory required; version 6.5.1 required to support PIM synchronization for roaming users)

•IBM Lotus Domino server version 7.0 (required to support encrypted message display)

Note: Do not install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server on a partitioned IBM Lotus Domino server.

We are running Domino 6.5 on an AS/400 for our email server. If I try to install BES without installing it, I do not get the option to install the complete package of BlackBerry Enterprise.

We were not anticipating having to install another Domino Server. And therefore have some concerns on how that should be installed and how it will affect our environment.

Please let me know if you can help us out.

RIM states in their instructions that BES is not supported on Partitioned installations.

Upon installation BES checks your for an INI file in the domino directory. On a partitioned installation your ini is in the data directory since you are going to have more than one config. You can trick the BES installation into working by placing a dummy notes.ini in your domino directory and then manually adding the bes lines to the partition notes.ini.

You want to make sure these are in the ini.

RIMDataPath=BES
RIMForceSaveInSent=0
RIMSRPPortDispatcher=5096
make sure ServerTasks= has BES added to it so it starts the task.

Those are the key lines you want to make sure are there. Ive done this a few times in our lab environment.

Hey Chuck,

BES is a Domino add-in task - fyi. You need to install it on a Domino server. And no other platform except Windows for now. Hope this helps.

You could always migrate Domino to Win2K3 and install BES - how's your blood pressure :D
