BES 2.2 for Domino > 4.1 Upgrade (URGENT) Hello I'm going to upgrade my BES 2.2.4.6 for Domino server to BES 4.1 for Domino. I'm going to do upgrade using "Upgrade The BES using an in-place process" method.Upgrade manual states " You cannot remove BES 4.1 and return automatically to the earlier version". Now I'm confused about the rollback scenario. In case we faced a problem during upgrade ; can I go back to my backup ( I'm going to stop server and have full backup just before the upgrade ) and continue with 2.2 ? Or there is no way to go back if I started to upgrade ? |
Hello, This was our upgrade procedure as well (2.2.6.12 to 4.1.0.40). Prior to performing the upgrade we test the roll back in a test environment. The roll back procedure is very easy. Just make sure you have a clean backup of your 2.2 BES folder. If the upgrade were to fail you could uninstall BES 4.1 and re-install 2.2 and replace the BES folder. It is very easy. Oh did i mention, Make Sure You Have a Backup of Your 2.2 Folder! |
Check this RIM article out: KB-04766 "What Is - Checklist for upgrading BlackBerry Enterprise Server 2.2 to 4.0" http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgec...nodeid=1168088 It is applicable to 4.1 too. |
upgrade BES 2.2 to 4.0 bad experience Hello, BES server 2.2.5 Domino v6.5.2 for us the upgrade of the BES server was good but we discovered that all the handhelds running an ios<4.0 were unable to connect to our BES v4.0 server. RollBack ! So new prerequisit for us : upgrading the devices first and we wait for the upgrade... By the way : if you know how to detect, from the server, the os of the handhelds : it will be very useful for us thx  |

oh hang on you're trying to get to 4.0 then 4.1 ;-) so sorry no you can't, and pretty sure this is not stored in 2.2.x anywhere in the dbase.. |
Ouch! Is this typical? Quote:
Which way is it? Thanks. John Rowland |
<4.x desktop/handheld should be fine I didnt upgrade to 4.1 but did upgrade to 4.0 , and it should be fine . |

I still think it's better to blow the handhelds first as that means that when the upgraded is completed you've got a 'big bang' launch with everyones devices taking the new features. If you're not doing an in-place upgrade the definately blow the devices first cos if you end up moving devices between BES's then they can cope much better if on 4.0 or 4.1 handheld code, as the new authentication code is auto pushed out to the device (IIRC) cheers bb :bb: |
