Default CoolMIR External keybord Driver for BES

Please Login to Remove!

Has anyone tested the CoolMIR External Keyboard in a BES environment? I'm a little hesitant to install drivers on the BES.
Thanks.

Why are you hesitant?

Default Maybe paranoia?

Paranoia maybe? I just think it is a good idea to research things like this before acting on them. We don't have a test environment. So I have to rely on the experience of other BES Admins who were brave enough to try it or who have a test environment and have tested it. I have crashed critical servers by not being cautious about installing untested apps or devices on them. And I also understand that whats working in one environment may not work in another environment, but at least learning that other BES admins have tested and are using this CoolMIR keyboard product can reduce the chances of my making a mistake.

Smile Disregard

I figured out that the Product Install Instructions say to "Load CoolMIR software on the BES" it actually means copy the drivers to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader folder and run the Loader.exe /index on the BES. Then configure a software config policy etc....

I received the same error, did you resolve the issue? If so, what was the fix action? I set up the BES for my account to use the coolmir keyboard. I loaded the driver and it gave me that error.

The uncaught exception error mentioned above only happened the first time. Now everytime I plug the keyboard in it gives me this error "USB charging current is not sufficient. Verify that your handheld is connected to a powered USB charging source and that the proper USB driver is installed."

I have charged the keyboard for more than 48 hrs and downloaded the driver from the site given in the instructions. The blackberry is a 8700c. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

it was a policy problem. forgot to allow usb access for third party devices (something like that).

btw. i am not very happy with the coolmir support, they first did not answer for weeks, and on my latest question they did not response at all.

however, i won't give the keyboard out to users, because it only will work when there is no password set on handheld. that will, for security reasons, of course NOT be an option in my environment.

edit:
further, the input rate is very low. 60 keystrokes/min or something like that.

I sent an e-mail to the coolmir support team and they called me about an hour later. So kudos to them for their response time. They helped me troubleshoot my issue and we resolved it over the phone.

I had to go and edit the coolmir permissions on the blackberry (under advanced options>applications>coolmir). When you get in the Coolmir Permissions you expand "Interactions", then enable "Keystroke Injection." After that I had to reboot the blackberry, then go into the coolmir application and turn it on. Now the keyboard works. I still get the "USB charging...... error," but I was told by the coolmir technician that will always pop up with the 8700c models for some reason, you just cancel out of it when it pops up.

I asked him about the password issue and he said that the next model of these keyboards should be able to work with passwords. So I suggest waiting to purchase one of these until then if you have a secure blackberry environment.
