Default Looking for some BES answers

Please Login to Remove!

hello all,
this is my first post so sorry if i mis-placed it.

My Company is going to a BES server and if i understood the IT manager we use Microsoft Exchange as the Outlook and main cliente to manage email already.

what i am trying to do is get some general ideas about how:
1. BES interacts with Exchange.
2. Capabilities and limitations of BES w/ Exchange versus Lotus, etc..
3. Some terminology defines. Example DBA?

The reason for this is, simply, IT sits in Texas and WE (GA Market) sit in Ga and scattered at that. My counter parts are in N. Atl while i sit in Savannah.

i am pretty tech savy but i have been DIY with the education.

any help is appreciated.

I would suggest reading the documents about BES on the blackberry site. Other than that...
1. if you're asking what I think you're asking, the BES server needs to be on the same LAN as the exchange server. Running it in a different site is probably possible, but why would you go through such a headache?
2. You're considering BES, but you don't know what kind of groupware mail server you're using yet? I would pick a mail server first.
3. you mean, some terminology definitions? DBA means database administrator. In the future, you could try wikipedia or google or webopedia.

good luck

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ THE DOCUMENTATION BEFORE INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE. It will explain all the questions you may want to ask. And as matty5490 said, place the BES within the LAN of the Exchange server. Reason: RIM/BlackBerry suggests the connection between BES and Exchange be no higher than 35ms. BES connects to Exchange using MAPI and these are limitations which MAPI causes when making server side connections.
