Default BES 4.1, can't assign device to user

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all

I am new to this stuff, but not with computers/servers.

Due to our increasing number of BB, we decided to order the BES software. I have installed it on a Win2K server which already have Exchange 2k and Sql 2k on it. Now the problem is that whenever I try to assign a device to a user I get this message: "An error occured while assigning the device to the user. The user is not yet known to the blackberry agent. Etc..."

In the logs, I constantly get these lines:

"[20000] (06/01 13:01:17):{0x1D08} Could not connect to Service Control Manager at \\127.0.0.1: 1722
[20000] (06/01 13:01:17):{0x1D08} Unable to connect to Dispatcher 'ServerX'

Services are all running using a service account and no error are reported in the event log. I had MS Outlook 2002 installed on the server as well and as I was reading through this forum, I have red that this is really not recommended, so I uninstalled it and I checked if the mapi32.dll and cdo.dll are coming from the exchange installation and they are. I have called the technical support but they were not very helpful. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Default update...

After a call to the technical support @ RIM, they found that the SMB protocol was disable (it's disabled by default in Small Business Server), now I need to reboot the server to see if that solve the problem. I will let everyone know the outcome...

here's the fix:

I had to enable the SMB protocol on the server. Following is the link to the solution page from the TS team:

Default Link for doc please

Hi quetib,

I am having this same issue and when I try to reach the link I cannot reach it. I noticed that the 'ww' was missing from www and that there was a space in the word (Small) and there was a space at the end of the nodeID.

I am wondering if you can tell me how to get to this link as I have tried doing a search on parts of this and cannot find the article at all. Is it not in the public knowledgebase? Do I need extra support access to reach this article? Your help is really appreciated as this has been an ongoing issue for us.

Thanks once again

Here is the reg key you need to change/add

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\NetBT\Parameters <-- ignore the space

Dword: SMBDeviceEnabled
Value: 1
