Default BES activating help

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all!

I have a BES configured to a Groupwise server (7) that is activated and everything but I can't seem to activate myself.

I found my user on the BES server had it send me my activation password that I recieved in my mailbox just fine.

Then onn the BB, I enter the email and activation password and choose to activate and it just sits at a screen that says: Activating.. 3 times then fails

This is my first BES server so I'm not even sure where to begin looking for the culprit. Is there a port or something coming in that could be blocked on a firewall?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone? I keep going over my config and just can't see where I did something wrong. I'm out of ideas.

I don't normally use the email password option. I just set the activation password on the device then I activate the device.

Not sure exactly your problem may be but you may want to try it that way.

When you hit the activation on the device, do you actually receive an ETP message in your inbox ? If so, does it get picked up from your inbox and moved to the trash ? Check that you have the processes GWConnector.exe, GWCheckNew.exe and GWCheckPA.exe running on the BES. If they are not, open up the GWCO log file in the logs directory and check that the 'MailStore' test being passed on startup.

Few more ideas..

1) are you using external email scanning/filtering services (e.g. blackspider or messagelabs) - these types of services can mangle the activation emails.

2) What device are you using - some of the 'earlier' 8700's had issues with actviation.

3) In exchange the permissions for the BES account over the Exchange server have to be set very carefully to ensure the BES works correctly. If the permissions don't work then the Ent Act fails.

4) You could always try cabling the device to the BES - this worked for me on a stick 'ent act' last week.

Did you get a successful SRP test connection? If so, the firewall is not your problem.

A quick test for this is to remove the user from the BES and then try to do the activation on the handheld. Of course it won't work, but look in the users client inbox and see if the message from RIM/Blackberry shows up. If it does, then you're not filtering/blocking anything.

I'm having this issue right now with a new user and just got off the phone with RIM.
