Default BES 4.1: How to upgrade from 4.0.4 - 06-03-2006, 09:56 PM

Is there a an update that I can download to allow me to update from 4.0.4 to 4.1? Or does this have to be purchased?

You have to purchase 4.1, unless you have a TSupport contract that lets you get upgrades for free.

The 4.1 Express has the upgrade database and user migration so can upgrade 4.0.x installations. You need to do a complete backup of your existing BES system (configuration database, Exchange hidden folders (if using Exchange) and the BES server) as the upgrade process can be flakey if you want to install the MDS Services.

I have completed a 4.0.3 to 4.1 upgrade but not a 4.0.4 to 4.1 upgrade so if you attempt it you do it at your own risk.

I'm looking at upgrading too, can you have one server running 4.1 and another using 4.0.4 that share the same SQL database?

I don't want to run the risk of upgrading all our servers incase it goes FUBAR on me.

I just ran the 4.0.4 to 4.1 (for Exchange 2003) upgrade Friday night, and it went pretty smoothly. I bulilt a backup server with 4.0.4 (I have two SRP IDs) for failover, just in case... I didn't need it, however. I ran the upgrade on the production server and aside from the BlackBerry Alert Service hanging (had to kill the process using Task Manager), the install went super-smooth.

We have now paid for T3 support after some early fiascos, and it was good to know that they were available!

Guys just a tip, when you do upgrade to 4.1 you don't have to install MDS services, unless your group is invoved in MDS devlopment, connection service is installed by default.
