Default Server crashed, lost a CAL key - 06-06-2006, 11:32 AM

Short version: BES4 on a Windows 2003 SBS server. Tried to upgrade the SBS server to 2003 Standard using Microsoft's transition pack, and it killed the server (it was running but we couldn't login due to activation being broken.) In attempting to fix it, we "broke" the server in general.

I'm preparing to reinstall BES this afternoon, but can't locate one of the 5-pack CALs. I cannot access the old server through Blackbery Manager, and the SQL engine was remove in attempting to fix the server earlier.

My question is where are the CALs stored? In the SQL database?

Why don't you explain the situation to the vendor you purchased them from?

Yes the CALs should be in the SQL database. Liek crstek said, if you contact RIM or your reseller they should be able to provide you with the CAL key.

I attached the BESMgmt.mdf and ldf files to another SQL Server and found a LicenseKey table that had all the keys.

You could have also run the following commands from DOS the SQL/MSDE server:

c:\> bcp besmgmt..licensekeys out c:\keys.txt -c -T

For more information please see Article Number: KB-03300.

Cheers
