Default 4.0 to 4.1

I have been reading RIM's upgrade guide for version 4.1 and I am a little confused by the section titled "Synchronize Blackberry device capabilities" on page 33 of the guide.
The section states that if desktop manager is not used in the environment you must connect every Blackberry to the desktop manager before the upgrade is performed.
I have about 20 BBs, all of which were setup wireless-ly using Enterprise Activation. Only about 4 of them have ever been connected to a PC, and that was to update the device software (from 4.0 to 4.1). Do the rest of the BBs need to be connected to a PC running Desktop Manager before I upgrade the server or am I reading this wrong?

Thanks,

CD
P.S. - Of those of you who have performed an in place upgrade, how long did it take and was did it go well?

You dont need to worry about that. The section that you read that was under "Preparing to upgrade from BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 3.6" Since you are running BES 4.0 you are fine.

For the upgrade time it will depend on the environment. If you have about 20 users it will take around 20 mintues to 35 mintues depending on reboot time. The upgrade should go fine. Before you upgrade the server i would recommed to backup the database before the upgrade.

from DOS:
osql -E
backup database besmgmt to disk="c:\backup.bak"
go

Cheers
Ash
