Well I figured it out that we can play wav files sent from my UM system to my exchange server, then to my 8700.

Got T-Mobile to send us a demo 8700g. I spoke to them ealry this week and forwarded them a wav file, they can play it as along as it comes in as an MMS.
So i set up a rule or two that says, when a email comes in that has a voice mail in subject, fwd to my . And once the voice mail comes in, i can then play it.

Cingular is unable to play mms messages to their 8700s. We are meeting with Tmobile on Tuesday for some cost coverage questions. We have 90+ bbs on cingulars network and no go for mms wavs.

Tmobile also said that Bes 4.2 is going to have enchancements to the way mms, wav file sand vm interpaorate. No more details but i have been invited to a meeting in July at Tmobile for more details. I think them meant 4.2 os but should know more monday.

The system our IT has put together uses Cisco phones integrated with MS Exchange, this provides WAV email attachments in Outlook. Since, I have Cingular as my provider it sounds like you are saying I will not be able to play the attached wav files, is that correct.

I have not been able to get them to play, but I did not know why.

We also have the 8700C with Cingular and can't open Unity voice mail messages that are sent via email attachments. Did you find out anything at the meeting you attended? We have the most current version of BES server and still no luck.

Sound attachments will not play on the handheld if it's in email. There's no version of BES available that will do it.

The distiller does not know how to process the .wav file and send it to the handheld. Even if you add the .wav extension to the attachment extension list. it will show that there is an attachment, but the attachment service cannot render it for the handheld.

Last time I talked with RIM, they said they were working on it, and that it 'may' be available in a future release of the BES.

Well since Cingular does not support mms, you cant route incoming wav files to your cell mms number. I tested tmobile rerouted incoming wav files to mms tmobile number and it worked great. Cingular is hold up on on using mms.

Thanks for the info. Works great. Are you finding that you have to select "Retrieve now" for every message with a WAV file attached?

I no longer have Tmoible test unit, sent it back. We hope that Cingular will catch up and allow MMS messages.

I dont have that issue with an 8700 retrieving wav and getting the retrieve now. I am concerned that forwarding voicemails to a server that I have no control of or have knowledge of the security...I would advise to becareful what you are forwarding (hard to find out esp when voicemail obviously) but you can tell from the sender...

...not to mention that most corporate plans don't include unlimited text messages and MMS messages with WAV files will likely cost about the same as 3 texts (or from your pool).

I am on T-Mobile with an 8700g and it keeps saying attachment dropped whenever I try to send myself a wav file to the @tmomail.net address.

I was able to do it fine on my BB, but when I tried with the boss and another manager with the exact same model 8700, they got the "attachment dropped" message. I haven't figured out what the difference is yet.
