Default Exchange upgrade and BES 4.0

Please Login to Remove!

I have a BES 4.0 server built on W2k3 (no service pack) and an Exchange 2003 (no service pack) server built on W2k sp4 box. The number of exchange users is at 300 and the server can no longer accomodate the capacity because of disk space i have been unable to upgrade from W2k to W2k3 and exchage service packs. I have a new box and will install W2k3 sp1 and Ex2k3 sp2 then begin moving users to new box.

My question is, once I begin moving the 110 BB users to the new EX2k3 sp2 box will the BB users have problems? Which CDO.dll file should I run on the BES during the move and What about ESM on the BES? Currently I haven't intalled W2k3 SP1 on the BES box because I am running ESM with no service pack. We only use wireless sync and do not use any user desktop apps for BB's.

I will be happy to hear all suggestions and advise or war stories of a similar upgrade.
Thanks

Once you start moving the users over to the new Exchange server you will need to upgrade the BES.

Do the following in this order. Upgrade the BES to SP1 for Windows 2003. You will also need to apply SP4 HF3 for BES 4.0. Then you will need to apply SP2 for Exchange 2003 on the BES and reboot. This will update the mapi32.dll and cdo.dll on the BES.

After you have applied SP2 for Exchange, open the MAGT log file and search for cdo.dll and make sure the file version is 6.5.7638.x. (It should be at the bottom of the log file.)

Before you start moving users over to the new Exchange server you will need to make sure your service account (BESAdmin) will have the following permissions:

http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgec...?nodeid=278513

Once this is done you can start moving the users over to the new Exchange server. After you move users you will need to run "handheldcleanup.exe -u" on the BES. This will look for any users who's mailboxes have been moved to a new Exchange server.

Hope this helps
