Default Blackberry 4.0 w/ 7100G and Notes BES

Please Login to Remove!

So I am having a problem with a user here. He just got a 7100G and we installed Desktop Manager 4.0. We have a BES syncing up with Lotus Notes. User has Notes 6.03 installed.

When we try to configure the PIM, the address book option is greyed out and it does not list Notes 5.0/6.0. I know if this happened in Notes 5, you replace the nstrings.dll file with different file temporaily and it will work. However with Notes 6.03, there is no nstrings.dll file, only a ndstrings.dll.

Any clues on what I should be doing? His Lotus Notes was upgraded to 6 from 5 so I'm not sure if that is an issue. Yes, I can backup his data and uninstall/reinstall Notes but want to check to see if there's an easier way to fix this.

TIA

Ron

It might be because with 4.0, address books are synced wirelessly. Try turning off wireless reconciliation on the handheld (address book->options) and trying it again.

We don't sync our Address book wirelessly. It's a local sync with the names.nsf file.

Calendar and Email are the only things we are doing wirelessly.

Sorry. Not sure then :( We don't use Notes, but I've noticed that wireless sync on with 4.0 will not let you use the intellisync or backup/restore options of the desktop manager.

Really? I can backup the calendar using the Backup/Restore feature on our 7280's and 7290's.

I guess I'll have to try to uninstall Notes and the Desktop Manager and do everything from scratch. I think the upgrade from Notes 5 to 6 screwed something up. Funny thing is that he had a 7280 with Desktop Manager 3.6 SP3 just fine. We just did an upgrade of the Desktop Manager and thought it would work.

Thanks for your help. I'll post if this worked or not.

Might consider switching back to DM 3.6. If you're not running BES4, there's no real need for it.

Ok this will be vague because I wanted to try to catch you before you went to alot of trouble and tore something up

I have had this on they very few Notes clients I've had to deal with. Problem, there is something in your registry for the Notes client that is not pointing to the notes.ini in the proper place.

Now with that said lemmie go try to find that article for ya.

lol! I'm not going to break anything major. It's only on the client side and not on the BES. I don't have access to the BES actually.

Thanks for the link! I'll give that a shot before I uninstall stuff. I'll try and get to it tomorrow as I got tied up with some stuff.

Actually, upon reading the link, it is due to a multi-user install of Notes. However he has a single user install of Notes. His data folder is in the correct spot in the registry.

I had this on one user that was a fresh XP image with Notes 6.5.1 and Desktop Manager 3.6 SP3a. I had to do a full uninstall of DM and Notes. Reinstalled Notes, then DM and it worked.

I searched RIM's articles and even opened a ticket with them but didn't get any magic resolution.

Well, the user actually fixed this himself. He's a Director and we trust him. He's not a typical Director. Anyways, all he did was uninstall DM and downloaded the DM from Blackberry's site and it worked. Weird because the version we have was downloaded from Blackberry's website. Go figure. At least it's working now.

Thanks for the help.
