Question Email Notification but No Email

I manage our BES 4.0 with Exchange 2000. No problems and then user calls yesterday and says that he gets a sound notification that an email has arrived but sees no email (device: 7290). No filters have been applied, he is looking in his inbox on exchange, I have resent the service book and the BES shows he is in communication and is updating successfully. He is the only user this is happening to. He can send an email to himself, it will send and he can hear it receive the email. The BES reflects this is happening. But when he goes to his inbox to read it, the last email received is yesterday around noon. Any ideas?

in case anyone is wondering I ended up just wiping the handheld and OTA Activation.
