Default BES stops sending email to just a few users

Please Login to Remove!

A couple of times a month 5-6 users stop receiving their email on their 7290's. This usually happens late at night, and I don't find out about it till the morning. When I look at the BES Manager, everything looks fine, but I can tell by looking at my Notes Server log that no messages have been delivered to certain users for hours. Checking their Notes inboxes, I can see messages there that didn't make it to their BBs. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, do you know why it happens and what can be done to prevent it from happening in the future? BTW, we're running Domino Server 6.5, BES 4.0. Some users are still running version 3.x of Desktop Manager and Handheld software, some are running 4.x. Would some of the BES monitoring programs (ie Boxtone, NeedText) catch this when it happens?

Restarting Domino (not just BES) seems to take care of this. I have also just recently learned that deleting and then undeleting the Desktop CMIME service book also corrects this. I'd be happier if it just didn't happen at all.

Thanks in advance for any/all replies!
Marcia

Marcia,
When you reboot the BES it will reinitialize the profiles database. If deleting/undeleting solves the problem, it kicks in an Enterprise Activation without using a username and password which rebuilds the users state database and mail file related information.
Try running a full domino offline maintenance. Let me know if you don't know how to run domino maintenance.

I've ever experienced some problem like this, but i'm using an exchange mail server. Later I found that there is a virus thread / spam in my network. Make sure there is no virus thread in you network environment, because some of viruses have an ability to disrupt / degrade your network connection. You may need to apply some update to your windows server.

I would look at my virusscanner.. Is it keeping the user's state database locked? Unless you are using a Domino enabled scanner you might want to exclude NSF files.

Another thing to look at is your threads? All of the problem users on the same mailserver? You could be dealing with a hung thread.

I actually had issues with virusscanners locking files and copy-style compacts where the user's state database would disapper.. Found out that the virusscanner was keeping the original state database locked at the moment that the compact was attempting to replace the original file. Result was that user ended up without a state database and no new Email until I manually renamed the compacted file.

Thank you all for the info. We didn't have a virus, or virus scanner related issues that we could see. We talked to RIM and they told us to apply SP4 to our BES and then apply HotFix #3. We did that, and so far so good.

Geek101, I'd like to take you up on your offer of telling me how to run a full domino offline maintenance. Thanks!

try going into the users state db and deleting any save or replication conflicts, and repeat for all the affected users and then bouce you domino bes.
