Default BES and Goodlink on same box?

Please Login to Remove!

So, I'm getting ready to install BES for a client who is switching from Treo to Blackberry while they're also switching service providers. They are currently running Goodlink for their Treos and don't want to remove that from the structure until all of the handhelds have been put into users' hands. Can the two pieces of software run on the same box?

I can't think of good reason why not... but check things like what ports GL uses... BES uses 3101 I think, and probably a few others. I don't know GL at all, but also check what underlying services/apps each needs... for instance, one might need SQL server all to itself or something.

I talked to another BES admin friend of mine who apparently did some research on this before. Apparently, there are prerequisites that conflict between the software packages. One of them requires services to be on the box while another requires for them not to be on the box. Can't remember what he said specifically but the end answer is that it can't be done, apparently.

No you can not. I had to install a second server for my Goodlink users. If I remember correctly there is also an issue with MAPI profile conflicts.

Grifter,

Technically you can install Blackberry Enterprise Server and goodlink on the same box as goodlink using the same MAPI32.dll that is installed by ESM. BES uses the same the problem arises in Mapi limitation. The limitation is of MAPI if theres too much traffic, the heap size and the physical limiation comes in play.
From support stand point its not adviseable and will not be supported by RIM either.

Nor by Good, incidentally.
