Default Enterprise Activation Question

Please Login to Remove!

I am an end user that needs the help of some knowledgeable BES Admins, so I am posting here (if wrong to do so, moderator please move).

My question is, can both OTA Enterprise Activation and wired EA be set up at the same time on one BES? Can an individual user's profile be set up for wired EA if the BES is set up for OTA without changing the whole companies setup?

The reason for the question is that I'm trying to get BB Connect to work on a device and it isn't communicating with the server. Found out we have OTA enable, and I need wired EA to get BB Connect to work. Our IT department said that it is not possible to change just one user profile to wired. I wanted to double check if this is right.

you should be able to connect the device to any pc with desktop manager installed. all you have to do is add the BB user profile to the MAPI client. Change Desktop Manager to "ask for profile" on start up and you can do what ever you need.
Sometime, i have trouble getting BES to 'activate' with Enterprise Activation from the handheld, so i just add the new users profile to my MAPI in Outlook, start up desktop manager and choose that profile and 'wham', the BES will see the BB almost instantly.

As an end user, you can certainly use Wired or OTA activation. As far as I know, the BES Admin doesn't have to do a thing for you to do either. OTA and Wired are both active options available and don't have to be specified on the user level.

If you are having trouble with BB connect software, the Bes Admin still has to add an account on the BB server before you can connect to it. Wired is the way to connect a BB connect device to the BES anyway. As far as I know OTA is not an option when doing BB connect.

Good Luck.

if you turn off the Wireless sync for example the address book and have the Dmanager installed, you can "sync" if it has been set up". You have to turn off the wireless sync on the handheld.
