Default newbie Q: re: bes install/mds component

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all

some higher ups have decided they may want bes in our office - for about 5-6 bb's

now, i'm doing the reading pre-install/testing. I see there's a component called mds-mobile data systems. It seems to be a way to access say, data off a company app which utilizes sql for example. Is this correct?
or, is this a component which must be installed in order to have functionality for the normal email/atachments/calendar functions on a bb?

thx for any input

MDS has a few components. On a generic install, MDS allows for web browsing to take place on the BES server. What that means to most companies is that intenal web pages are viewable without external DNS mappings or controlling web browsing habits. There is another component of MDS, (not on the generic BES install) that will allow for 3rd party developement for creating apps like you descibe. MDS is not a requirement during install, but a small piece gets installed anyway for the web browsing stuff.
