I have a BES 4.0 no sp. I'm in the middle of installing a new Exchange 2003 server sp2. It is in the same Org as my master Exchange 2003 no sp server.

The bes is using the cdo.dll file as it pertains to old exchange server and is running ESM with no SP.

Exchange is working fine, mail moving back and forth. I have a test user with a bb who was sending and receiving mail just fine on the bb until the move to the new exchange server. I ran "handheldcleanup.exe -u" and now the user shows that he is on the new exchange server in the BES Manager. However, he is not able to send or receive mail on the device. Is this because the CDO.dll file is not the same version as the one on the new exchange server?
If so, will I need to move all my BB users and then upgrade the BES to the proper sp4 hf3 and upgrade esm to SP2 in order to get this working? If this is the case and if i do this upgrade will the other BB users no longer be able to talk to the old server? I'm asking because there are 110 of these guys and I just want to know if I am doing this over the holiday weekend? Plus I want to get it right.

You also need to make sure the service account has permissions on the new Exchange server.

I did but mail still isn't flowing to the to the bb. Will this change once we do the bes upgrade? will users on both exchange servers receive mail to their bb's? Or will I have to move all the bb users to then new exchange server first before they mail will flow to them? I have a n00b question about handheldcleanup.exe -u: when I run that it asks for the profile and then it asks for besname: is the profile supposed to be the besadmin account and the BesName, what do they want there?

Never mind on the handheldcleanup question, I finally found the answer

looks like it will work, seems I had the wrong permissions set. How many times have we all read that here?

In the event anyone else needs to do this sort of exchage server upgrade with BES just want to let you know the answer is yes the bb users will be able to send and receive no matter which server they are on as long as the BES knows where they are. This wasn't as messy as I thought it was going to be at all. Pretty straight forward once it got going. Only glitch was HF3, needed to exctract the SP4 file to a folder and then point to that location so the hot fix would run. Other than the reboots and the breif period between mailbox moves there was no real interuption in service to the BB users.

Likewise is there a clear procedure for moving a blackberry users exchange mailbox from one exchange server to another?

If you are only upgrading Exchange and moving users it isn't too tough. Basically there isn't a single place that I found to get all my answers. There is another thread that gave some good advice in this forum. What are you doing exactly? Building a new exchang server with sp2 and moving the users to the new box? Or are you building a second Exchange server?

I have a single domain with 2 exchange servers. The new exchange server is to be moved into the mix and the old one moved out, so I need to migrate all of the users mailboxes to this new server. What is best practice for making this move? My current BES is version 4 sp 3 (Blackberry Manager version 4.0.3.7)

What I think I need to do is:


-Upgrade Exchange 2003 on the new server to sp2
-Remove all blackberry users from the blackberry server
-Move all mailboxes to the new server
-Add the blackberry users on the new server and redo enterprise activation for each one.

What pitfalls do I need to watch out for?
