I would like to create an IT policy so i can set the keep messages: option
this is currently avalible from messages -> options -> general options

I have read that it is possible to create a custom policy but no one actually says how.

It is fairly easy to set up on the server.

When you go into view the default policy, you click new in the lower left corner and select your options/choices then name your new policy and when your finished press ok. That's about it. Then assign the users to that policy and you good to go.

This is just my practice, you can do what you prefer, but I have no users on the default policy. One of several reasons for this is so I can make changes to policys without effecting users.

I know how to create the IT policy but the option i want isnt contained in the default settings template.

I think you can create custom entries to this

Custom policies are for use with custom applications. You cannot create a policy to control a setting on the BlackBerry that is currently not controllable with a policy.

The one you mentioned would be a nice setting to control though.
