I am using BES 4.0 in my company, and we have more than 300 users now. I am going to upgrade the database from MSDE 2000 to SQL 2000. Can I just run the SQL2000 installation to do the upgrade?

I dont know but I would get a backup of the database:

DOS
c:\osql -E
1> backup database besmgmt to disk="c:\backup.bak"
2> go

And then once you get it install just attach the database back.

Done Done, and Done!

ash... i found on installation guide something like: "Runnig a manula backup before the upgrade does not backup all parts of the schema..."
how can i be sure that the backup that you suggest it is ok ?

Are you planning to install SQL on the same box as the BES?

Schema and references info is stored in the model and master dbs.
So yes its not backed up.

Hence once you do the back up,
On the SQL box run createdb.exe (look in the database folder under BES directory)

Look for creating BEMgmt database manually on the RIM Knowledgebase

Make sure the account has proper permissions on SQL server.

It take to 10 -15 mins.. Good Luck

You will not be able to start service and will get Error 5608

Don't forget to run createdb.exe (To create the Schema on the SQL Box)
Then restore the backup.. or just attach the BESMgmt.mdf and ldf

Now its done

I find it easier to use the BES config tool to create a new blank BES db, which upgrades the schema in the new DB server, and then simply restore the backup of the BES db originally created. Easier, straight forward, and less room for mistakes.
