Here's the scenario:

A Windows 2000 Server running Exchange 2000. A BES running Windows Server 2003. No option to upgrade the Exchange server to Exchange 2003. Seeing that the only version of Exchange that runs on Windows Server 2003 is Exchange 2003 I can only install the Exchange 2003 Administration tools on the BES (although I am aware of the XP workaround). So, what about the Exchange server version and service packs matching the Exchange tools version and service packs on the BES? Is it that I install Exchange 2003 Administration Tools on the BES with the latest Exchange service packs and then copy the CDO.DLL file from the Exchange 2000 server (which has the latest Exchange 2000 service packs) to the relevant location on the BES? Do I then register this CDO.DLL file on the BES rather than using the one which comes with Exchange 2003 with the latest service packs?

Also, what about the version of the CDO.DLL file on users installations of Outlook?

I used the XP workaround for months when I running the same configuration. Exch2K on W2K - BES 4.0 on W2K3

The Exch2K admin tools installed fine on my W2K3 server with the XP workaround.
