Default BES install fails at database setup.

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
I have installed the BES Express on a Windows 2003 server with Exchange 2003 SP2.
After the first reboot, the install continues and it tries to setup the database by the look of it.
However it fails at this stage with an error:-
"Database server not found. Verify the provided information"

Oddly the box for databse location is set to remote, however Iwas sure at the start of the install I chose a local DB install? However it will not let me change this option to local.

Thanks
Mike

You will need to install MSDE. From the tools dir you should see a sqlrun.msi. if you run this file it will install MSDE locally for you.

Thanks Ash,
I tried as you said and the installer for MSDE started and then just quits.
Anway I downloaded MSDE from microsoft, installed it, rebooted and then the install process carries on without any problems.
I hope this route I have taken will work??

thanks
Mike

Dirky,

I've seen this message when I was installing and what I found was I had to make sure the name of the MSDE server was input as HOST\SERVICE_NAME (host being the name of the server running MSDE and service name being the name of the MSDE instance). You can find this info by opening your MSDE service manager (in the windows system tray) and doing a little searching. I'm betting that once you put the information in using the format above, everything will go smoothly.

I have seen that happen before if you have another instance of MSDE installed, IE: backupexec
