so I have a - possibly stupid - question:
I have a Notes server and a separate Webmail server, that also houses the BES...External emails come in through a 3rd Notes server....I have a scheduled poweroutage on the Notes server and the question is: will the users from that servers get BB emails on their devices? Externals? I"m assuming they cant' get internals, since our server can't reach theirs...am I wrong? do emails have to hit the users mailbox to be forwarded to the devices or not?

If your notes mail server is down, the bb won't be able to send or receive notes messages. If the user are set up with notes mail AND external internet mail, the internet mail will not be effected.

The answer is "yes"... Basically BES polls the designated user's mail database as specified in the Persons document for all new email messages (Notes internal + external). If mail server is offline, BB will not get them.

thank you very much, I suspected as much...even though i had a user claim to be receiving emails during a recent outage....thus my confusion

Hey Hanni, no worries. Your user may still be receiving email if his BlackBerry is also integrated with the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS). Although Domino mail server may be down (and thus making BES service offline), he may still be getting email from his BIS account, this may be the confusion... you may like to verify this too.

good point...although I'm not sure this user has an BIS account with external email setup, but I'll check that out - thanks for mentioning it!
