Angry Outlook Cal and BB Wireless Snyc not working - 07-19-2006, 03:43 PM

Sorry to bother everyone, but I am having an issue and can't seem to get resolved.

Have a BB 7100i which HAS BEEN syncing with a BES 4.1 server, windows 2003 server and Exchange 2003.

This has been working for about a month.

Email and tasks still working but the appointments aren't working.

I can make an appt on the BB, it looks like it tries to sync (by the little arrows showing it is sending/receiving), but it get's no where.

I can make the appt in outlook and it never makes it to the phone.

I have read through the forums and find some reference to problems similar and attmept to correct it and still have negative results.

Any assistance in this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Les

Versions are everyones friend.
Exchange Mapi32, CDO
BES Mapi32, CDO

Have you tried performing a bulk load?
Clear the calendar database on the handheld.
Synchronize using DTM and Outlook.
Enable BlackBerry Wireless Sync and perform another synchronization.
Test again.

Let us know have that works out for you.

K, not sure what you meant by the versions, but..

I cleared the calendar (per RIM document)
Synced with the dtm
Did a sync with the dtm
and endabled snyc. I couldn't find a place to do a forced sync? Am i missing it?

But, i still ended up with the same results. I can't seem to sync the calendar. It looks like it is trying, but nothing shows up in the calendar.

In a last ditch effort, would it really make a difference to kill everything on the BB and then reactivate the BES connection.

This calendar is very critical to me and I really need to have it working as fast as possible. I almost missed two court appointments. I live by this dang thing!

Thanks..

I too am having the same problem. I started a thread several days ago on the general BB forum and just located this one.

The first thing I tried with my IT department was to wipe the BB clean - start fresh - and remove the account from the BB server. did all this - added the account back in, activated the BB and everything but the appointment emails coming from outlook/echange server 2003 will sync.

Our IT group did say they ran into this problem about 6 months ago (before I got my BB) and they had it resolved. I brought it to their attention several days ago. They tought it was jsut local to my BB. After futher testing noone on out server is receiving the appointment emails.

other thread - http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...g-sent-bb.html

If I hear of a fix I will post.

Just heard back from my IT group that they are going to install an updated service pack for BES 4.0 server to see if this fixes the problem.

Timing for this upgrade and test is not until about 4:PM CST.

"I cleared the calendar (per RIM document)

I gather from your above statement that you could not do the wired sync.
or lets say you don't know how to do a wired sync.

Now if you seriously want to resolve this:
1)Open DTM
2)Open Intellisync
3)Click on Configure PIM
4)Choose only Calendar (Uncheck everything else)
5)Click on Choose >Choose Outlook as the translator
6)Proceed with the sync now (That's how you force it)

If it fails after initilizing ,you have Calendar problems(Corruption maybe) or may be just a corrpt entry. (try Intellisync advanced logging)Search on RIM KB for instructions

However,If it work, find out if you are the only person in you company having this.

"Calendaring issues are mostly Permissions problems for the BES Service account"BESAdmin

BESAdmin account should have Send As and Receive As + Admin IS on the Exchange MailBox Stores and the Public Folder stores over the View Only Admin on the Exchange org

Discuss with you BES Administrator

I'll ignore that IF it was meant the way it sounded.

I have done that just fine. What I was saying is that IT worked just fine with the wired. BUT - when I went back to the WIRELESS - it still doesn't sync. That is where the problem is. I can do the wired sync all day long and it works great - BUT the wireless sync doesn't work.

Alright assuming you BES server is properly set: Try this

Go into Options > Enterprise Activation for 8700 Options>Adv Options>EA

The username and password fields should be Blank>
Take the cursor to the beginning of the Username/Emailaddress

Hold the Alt key (Half Moon..bottom left)
Type CNFG (dont worry what it types )

You should get a Advanced wirless configuraiton screen
Change Wireless sync to NO (SAve) Change to Yes and Save

This should kick in the Slow Sync again and hopefully resolve this issue for u

Also before you do this ,check under calendar options if "Wireless sync " says YES.. Good Luck

I was having this same problem, sorta. My 7130 had never synced my calender wirelessly. I turned off the wireless sync, then turned it back on. It appeared to go thru parts of the eprise activation, now it is working like a charm.

That is so simple I suspect it is a different prob than you guys are having. just thought I would mention it.

1st, let me tell you, I very much appreciate your assistance!

You mentioned the 8700 in your post. I have a 7100i and this does not work. I have tried it a couple times to make sure I haven't mistyped it and nothing happens here.

I did delete my user off the BES and reactivate it. The BB went through everything just fine and brought over all the calendar items it was suppose to wirelessly.

Once it was complete, I tried to create an appt and it DID NOT sync wirelessly.

I then attempted the process through a wire and it brought over the appts as it should.

I noticed on RIM's website, it mentioned I should sent the transfer agent to WIRELESS (under config PIM) instead of OUTLOOK. My DTM does not have a wireless agent like that.

Blackberry1, I am the only user on this BES since it is the BES Express.

RIM support assisted in the setup of the server. It was running fine for about two months. Nothing on the BES changed. This I know, because I am the admin of the entire server. Actually, I installed Trend Micro AntiVirus software about 2 weeks ago, but the syncing wasn't working before that.

Do you have any other ideas to try?

Oh, I did install the latest HOTFix for BES 4.1

YEAH, now it doesn't sync ANYTHING....

It was working last night. I go to sleep, wake up and now it isn't even synching email.

I checked the DEBUG logs on the phone and the server and neither of them show any thing wrong. No errors, or anything.

Seems like a service account permissions issue.Do you have free support from RIM , call them and have them check your Service Account permissions.

Well worse case scenario,

Open a Calendar entry you created on the Blackberrry
Do a reconcile now from the messsages screen
Hold the Alt key and type VIEW
Scroll to the top find the Ref ID of the cal entry
Go in to the BES logs directory for the same day
Open the MAGT log
Use the find function to find the Ref id you noted earlier
See what happens to it
If it does not make sense- post the section of the logs here

Look for CDO and Calhelper errors ,specially Log On errors

I have an idea, what about removing the account from the BES server, and starting over, i.e. readding it, and then see what happens...

" Blackberry1, I am the only user on this BES since it is the BES Express"
Based on the above info, I dont think it will work with a fresh activation, there is no proof of a sucessful complete Slow sync.

Its worth a try anyways..

But I see , permissions written all over this one..

I am with ya on the permissions.

I did delete my user account and recreate it. It still did the same thing. Then - all of a sudden, NOTHING worked. Email didn't sync - NOTHING.

So, I deleted the user again, re-added it on the BES, then tried to activate it from the handheld. NOTHING. Now I am getting the network@etp... stuff in my inbox (outlook - not BB). Read through all the articles on the RIM web site and checked all my DLL's, re-registered the ones that they recommended and SAME thing. NOTHING.

I throw my hands in the air. I will be calling RIM for the incident tech support (one time thing) in the morning.

ARGH!

I thank you for all your assistance and patience.

Take a look at this pdf. I think it may help explain why you did nothing and things started breaking.

Related to a permissions issue due to a Microsoft fix/patch/breakage/whatever.]

Zro,

Thank you for the info - This referenced file fixed the issue I had in not receiving meeting notices sent from outlook/exchange 2003.

In regards to that PDF. Do I have to apply that hotfix to my exchange server?

What if I just make sure BESAdmin has send as, receive as and information store rights?

I really can not say. My IT department did each of the fixes in the order they are listed.

You could try what you stated and test. If not then perform the exchange server settings.

I know this suggestion was origionally from last year, but I was having the same problem. Oddly enough...when when I did this.... I had under normal options "yes" for wireless transfer... then under the advanced options I followed the directions... first time it was a no go....second time I also disabled "wireless user state"....don't ask me why. I was planning on switching it back after I saved... however when I saved no to wireless and disabled on user state the sync kicked into gear faster than you would know. Don't ask me how or why.... but now...it works and I'm not touching it.

No Blackberry...yet... but they made me put something in.
