Unhappy Weird BES 4.0 Activation - 07-20-2006, 04:42 PM

We have a BES 4.0 on Exchange 2003 w/sp1. The issue I am seeing is that when I go to activate or re-activate a BB, it finds it and seems to sync, but stops at the calendar. The really odd thing is that it pulls e-mail, and Calendar items, but the address book does not sync up. We can access the GAL, but no personal contacts for users. The only thing that would be wonky is that before I got here Outlook was on the BES server and I knew that wasn't a good thing so I uninstalled Outlook (backed up MAPI before uninstall) then I re-registered the MAPI.dll for exchange. Restarted the server and restarted all BB services. Everything seemed fine until now and that is the only thing I can think of that would be outside the scope of the install.
Any ideas on what is stopping the info from synching? It shouldn't be SP1, because mail hasn't been affected.

MAPI32.dll normally would not affect PIM sync
Now remember Calendar is not a PIM object in a BES enviorment

Now if address book does not sync ,common causes are :
-Address Book has a corrupt entry -(Rule that out by doing wired sync)
-Address Book is too big
-Sync service is either not started or needs to be restarted
-PIM sync may be disabled for the user

Re read your post again, tell me you did not just copy MAPI32 from an Exchange and registered it...

Make sure you uninstall Outlook
Uninstall and reinstall Exchange System Manger
Reboot BES

there are known issues w/ 8700s and enterprise activation with bes 4.0. i have experienced this first hand... pretty much exactly what you are describing.

get in touch with rim (via your provider if possible) and they will guide you through it.

do NOT re-install exchange... that isn't the problem. the problem is with the 8700s and BES

As long you are not running HH code 4.1.0.173 you should be fine.Issues with 8700 HH code have been resloved since a long time in HH code 4.1.0.206 and the newer 4.1.0.284

Attempt setting up a different model BB to rule out HH issues
