Default Is it possible to sync Windows and Blackberry Passwords? - 07-21-2006, 09:43 AM

Greetings,

My firm is about to implement a ridiculous password policy (8 charactor, complex password)
on our Blackberries.
Does anyone know of a utility that can sync the password between Windows and the Blackberry?

I'm not aware of any utility that will sync the BB password with the users local or AD Windows account, nor do I understand why this would prove useful in any way other then saving the user from having to type the password on their BB initially when setting it. A password sync app is not going to save the user from having to type out the complex password when the hh is locked.

Interesting question, but it is not possible. Maybe in a future version of BES. Would be nice, one less password to remember.

What a pain in the a** if you had to type a complex password on your BB!! Plus, if it truly supported the AD policy it would have to change every xx days.

Do they realize the reason for this type of password policy on a windows computer is because someone on the Internet can pound away at the password for hours and hours. Whereas on a BlackBerry there is no way for someone to keep trying past 10 tries. Also, if you lost your BB you would notify someone within a day and have it remotely wiped.

I think the people who have made this decision need to be more informed and rethink it..

Let me talk to them, I do BES and BlackBerry installed all the time for small and large organizations.

What type of company do you work for? When you say 'firm', is that a law firm?

Will the new password policy allow you to change the timeout before it locks? Will it force the device to lock up on holstering?

A foreign investment bank that has an office in the US
Maximum security timeout is dropping to 15 mins from 30 mins
Password Pattern checks will be 1 from 0 (could have been 2 or 3)
Password age, SMS and PIN - PIN are still being discussed....I suspect they will disable SMS and PIN - PIN as they cannot be monitored.

SMS/MMS and PIN messages can now be logged starting with BES v4.1.

It only logs the request, not the actual data (unless I am mistaken)

NASD 17a-4 requires that we capture all client communications....I need to know more than John Doe SMS'd Jane Smith at 10:00 AM today....I need to know what John said to Jane.

I stand corrected...Logging for SMS and PIN-PIN is disabled by default
Technote KB-05024 explains how to enable it
