Default Server 2003 + outlook express + BES issues

Please Login to Remove!

*EDIT* INCASE ANYONE ELSE IS TOLD BY THE GUYS AT BLACKBERRY THAT YOU MUST REMOVE OUTLOOK EXPRESS THEN JUST IGNORE THEM! I HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD BY A SENIOR TECHNICIAN @ ORANGE THAT IT WORKS FINE WITH SERVER 2003+OUTLOOK EXPRESS AS LONG AS OUTLOOK IS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH AN EMAIL ACCOUNT. HAVE REINSTALLED THE OS AND BES AND IT ALL WORKS FINE.

Right,

I have one Win Server 2003 machine running Exchange 2003, then a seperate Win Server 2003 machine on which i am installing BES. After meticulously reading the installation prerequisites I tried to remove OUTLOOK EXPRESS from the BES machine's OS and failed. No matter how hard i tried the blasted program would not go away.

Eventually after many calls to the Orange BB tech guys they said it was ok to leave outlook on as long as it was not registered to an account. Well i performed the install and it all seemed to work (Handhelds activated and received mail!)

However now it has all fallen over and the Orange BB manager i've spoken to says they wont support a configuration that includes an Outlook installation.

I cannot find anywhere on the web detailed instructions on how to remove Outlook Express from Server 2003 except for here.....

support.microsoft.com/kb/263837/en-us

....on which they specifically state "DO NOT REMOVE FROM 2003"

So now i'm at a loss. I've just bought a new server and am planning to put a fresh 2003 build on it and try again. Any ideas or help?

(Please dont suggest i choose a different OS!)

Cheers

What the heck? you were trying to remove outlook express? That sounds quite absurd. Start again.

I installed BES Express 4.1 on a Server 2003 and outlook express did not even come into the picture.

What the heck? outlook express?

The installer checklist is very clear you should not have a configured Outlook client on the box. That means Outlook 2003 or equivelent. Don't touch outlook 2003 or express, if this helps make it any more clear.

Follow the RIM documentation checklist for installation, to a TEA. You should have no problems if you start over doing that.
