Default MDS Problem on BES 4.1 for Domino

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

I have a BES 4.1 for lotus domino, and when i point to the MDS services, the error message appears :

"There are errors in retrieving data from the server. Please Refer to the Log for more information"

Actually, everything still running fine when i've just finished the installation. Then suddenly the MDS stop to function several days ago.

Do i need to define a new rule in our proxy server, to allow the MDS in BES to communicate? Please give me some solutions...

Thanks in advance

Tried to gather the errors in the MDS... the UI error is too brief...

I've browsed trough the logs file, and find these in the server_mngr_01_20060808_0001.txt file:

and many more of these messages. Could anyone help me to bring the MDS back online?

Definitely a Proxy Authentication caused by the Mobile Data Service issue. Did you check with your Security admin?

Yes, i agree with you. But i need the port numbers and destination address that need to be opened. Do you know which one they are? After I open those ports, do I need to do some configuration on the BES? Really appreciate your help Noname, thanks.

Have you set your MDS to pass through authentication requests?

In Connection Service poroperties in BlackBerry Manager select "Support HTTP Authentication" in the HHTP options. Save and then restart Connection Service.

Alternatively you could specify an account to authenticate through ISA on behalf of all users.

This is done in the Proxy Options of the Connection Service properties window. Again restart connection service if you make any changes.

For MDS Services, the ports used are 7080 (HTTP), 7443 (HTTPS) and shutdown port is 7005. MDS uses port 8080 to connect to applications.

Hi All,

Sferical, i've tried your suggestion and thanks!! The Blackberry browser is now working. The user can now browse using the blackberry browser. But the MDS is still hanging with error.

The error message is still the same "There are errors in retrieving data from the server. Please refer to the log for more information".

The security admin has opened the TCP Ports : 80, 8080, 7080, 7443, 7005, 3200, and 1433 in proxy server. But still no luck. The MDS is still error. We're using isa server 2004, and I forgot to tell you, there is a router/firewall in front of the proxy server. Do these ports need to be opened in router/firewall too? Anyone has some suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Hey andidarmali, more ports information can be studied in a new article published by RIM recently "Placing the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution in a segmented network" Check it out... it's good that more ports information is released other than those listed in the Installation Guide... See page 12
