Default Upgrading from 3.6 sp7 -> BES 4.1 HF1

Please Login to Remove!

Hello all,

I really enjoy this admin forum as it's provided excellent information and insidght into the issues other Blackberry admins deal with.

I have my project plan upgrading our BES from 3.6 sp7 to BES 4.1 and I'm likely doing an in place upgrade as the thought of erasing 1700 devices isn't pleasant. Now the other issue:

After the upgrade the BES starts pushing out the new service books. RIM stated this takes 2-3 hours so I assume during this time no email flows? Also I read in the upgrade guide older devices will need to cradle to get the new books. This poses an problem as a large amount of Blackberry are all around the country and I can't just update their firmware.

So how has other large shops gone about this? SMS an updated BDM with firmware for all models embedded? Drop your BB off and update luncheon? This is really a Desktop Support issue but being the Blackberry admin I want this upgrade to go smoothly.

Any thoughts / feedback - thank you!
