Default BlackBerry Message Retention

Please Login to Remove!

One user is complaining that his e-mails are disappearing after 4 days. His BlackBerry is set to retain for 90 days under "Message Options".

I've also verified all of the other commonly mistaken settings including "Hide Filed Messages", and verified his delete options (to be sure it wasn't set to "Handheld Only", and that he had deleted items from the handheld somehow). I'm not seeing what could be causing this. Unfortunately, the user is not geographically close, so I can't physically work on the device, I've got to trust the user.

Is it possible that the memory is filling up, and messages are falling off earlier than the setting? I checked via Outlook, and a rough estimate for his e-mail for the last 4 days including attachments is only around 3 megabytes. A good portion of those attachments are PDF, so I can't believe he'd have them stored on the BlackBerry. Could it be something "clogging" memory?

Any idea what might be causing this? I searched, closest thing I found was a fairly new post with no replies. It was post number 296341, as the forum won't let me post a link because I'm new here.

Currently running BES 4.00.97. The handheld is a 7700. All other devices on the BES are working properly, so this has me baffled.

Thanks for any insight.

Yes, it is possible that the handheld is out of space and deleting messages to make room. I would first check is space is an issue. Go to Options > Status and check the Free Space field.

Does the user have a lot of applications installed? How many contacts, calendar entries, memos, and tasks are on the device? You can try deleting the browesr history and cache.

Space available was listing as 143,xxx . User doesn't know how to load apps, I will check if he browses via the device, and if-so, I will clear the cache. I will also check the Calendar/Contacts. If it is a calendaring issue, I will review the Keep Items option.

User only has 1400 or so contacts, we've got plenty of users with far more than that. There are no tasks or notes stored on the device.

Is there any way to see where the memory is going?

Thanks again for the help!
