Question 7100x, Foreign SIM Cards, and BES

Please Login to Remove!

Greetings all.

We have a number of Blackberry devices in use at the moment (around 50), using BES v4.0. (I believe). One of our users in Hungary (our main organisation is in the UK, where all of our servers are located) has been sent a Blackberry 7100x, originally supplied by O2, with the unlocking process completed to allow other SIM cards to be put in.

Due to the cost of calls, the decision was made to allow the overseas users to use their mobile phone SIM cards in their Blackberries, with the Blackberry function enabled by their local provider. This has caused two problems when we try it howwever.

1. When the new Hungarian (in the case) SIM is put into the Blackberry, the Enterprise Activation option disappears, both from the front screen and the Options Menu. If the original SIM is put back in, the option reappears and all works as it should.

2. The users messages folder displays their text messages stored on the SIM card. If we do manage to get it activated, will these messages be overwritten by the activation process?

Sorry for the long-windedness of my post. Any ideas anyone?

Cheers

Ian

1. The EA option should not come back. is the handheld able to send and receive with the Hungarian SIM?

2. No sms messages on the SIM will not be overwritten.

Hi, thanks for the reply

If we put a UK SIM into the device and activate it, then it can send and recieve with no problems. If we then put the Hungarian SIM in with no changes to the device or the account, the user cannot send or recieve emails, and can only view his text messages stored on the SIM in the Messages application. This is one of the reasons I wanted to try activating with the new SIM in, to recreate the link to the BES account.

Thanks, thats good to know about the SMS messages!

Cheers

Ian

You may want to double check that the Hungarian SIM actually gives him BlackBerry services

Also check to see if the 7100 shows uppercase GPRS.
