Question Stupid Question..But I gotta ask. - 09-13-2006, 08:56 PM

I have a production BES with 400 users. I am setting up a hot spare (different SRP). My database is on a third server that both will access. If I move user from serverA to serverB is their state db recreated or moved. I am running BES 4.0.3.11 on Domino 6.5.4.

Thanks

Their State Database is moved as long as the DB that the BES Server's use have sufficient access. I do have production servers and one sql server...I do have user moves back and forth at least 2x a week and do experience this.

At times, the moves are seamless and other times arent, which you may have to re-create the state db and may have to re-activate the user all over again...extreme: delete and re-add the user.

abakcuh: I think you can consider to setup a hot standby server using the same SRP key. You need to stop all the BlackBerry services on the primary server before you install the standby. After setting up the standby, stop and disbale all BlackBerry serivces on the standby server. In case there is any problem on the active server, you only need to swap the BlackBerry services instead of moving users between DB.

I did have this server once as a cold standby (same SRP) and had the states replciated so acl permissions should not be an issue.

Another question would be the hole in the ground scenario. What happens in the case of serverA crashing and the need to move 400+ users to serverB occurs. Since the server is not available I can not move the state databses. I currently have replicas of these on serverB but I am unsure if a move would recognize this. Also is there a way to automate the move if the 400+ users if serverA is not available?

a better description instead of "stupid question but i gotta ask" would help people help you better.
