Default ?'s BES on VMware with SP2 - 09-18-2006, 01:19 PM

Looks like this is now supported officially by RIM, have many of you been holding off waiting for official support? Looks like a number of you are already running it in a VMware environment. Did you use a fresh build of BES and connect to your config DB or did you do the P to V migration path through VMware?

How did your migrations go?

Default Not SP2 but..... - 09-18-2006, 02:01 PM

I just did an import from MS Virtual Server R2 (on MS 2K3 ES) to VMware Server (on CentOS 4.4) of BES 4.1 running on MS W2K ES. I used the inveterate (who said BETA) VMware Importer Tool. Didn't even blink.

Sorry for all the abvs. HA HA!

What are you getting the information that BES on VMware is supported? According to THIS Kbase article (updated 3 days ago) its still unsupported.

From the 4.1 SP2 Release Notes:
Quote:
RIM certifies that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server operates on VMWare® ESX Server Version 2.5.2. As with any
deployment of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, RIM recommends that you take baseline measurements of
performance after you install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and then add users in stages to this server. In a VMWare
environment, other virtual machines might be running on that server, which might impact how many users the
BlackBerry Enterprise Server can support. See the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Version 4.1 Performance Benchmarking
guide for more information about performance measurements.
Seems like it is supported now

Hi,

It is now supported with 4.1 SP2

As per page 3 of the BES 4.1 SP2 Release notes:

"RIM certifies that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server operates on VMWare® ESX Server Version 2.5.2. As with any
deployment of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, RIM recommends that you take baseline measurements of
performance after you install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and then add users in stages to this server. In a VMWare
environment, other virtual machines might be running on that server, which might impact how many users the
BlackBerry Enterprise Server can support. See the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Version 4.1 Performance Benchmarking
guide for more information about performance measurements."
